Will God Save Him?

Q

Say that a non-believing homosexual wants to be saved. He doesn’t believe (maybe through ignorance) homosexuality is a sin but he admits that he is a sinner and believes Christ died for his sins, so would God save him? The reason why I’m asking is because, since repentance is defined as changing one’s mind about his behavior, is he supposed to acknowledge that homosexuality is a sin, or is it possible that God will save him and let the Holy Spirit convict him to change his mind about homosexuality?

A

It’s true that the Greek word translated repent means to change one’s mind, but it’s more about admitting the need for a Savior than about specific sins. To ask for salvation it’s sufficient to believe he’s a sinner in need of a Savior and that Jesus died for His sins and rose again. In Matt. 7:7-8 Jesus said that every one who asks receives, all who seek will find, and to everyone who knocks the door will be opened. Paul confirmed this saying, “All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).

The Lord already knows all the sins of his life and His forgiveness covers all of them (Colossians 2:13-14). After He’s saved the Holy Spirit will begin convicting him of the need for specific behavioral changes.
