Apostles And Prophets
Published: July 13, 2007What do you think of the curent trend in some churches to have people that are called by others and themselves as “Prophets, and Apostles?” They use Ephesians 4:11 and following as their basis. I believe it is called the “Five- Fold Ministry.”
I don’t want to “quench the spirit”, and I know the “gifts” are forever, or until Christ comes, but I’m so uncomfortable with people who call themselves a “Prophet” or an “Apostle.” I believe in the gift of prophecy, and that the gifts are for today, but isn’t there any biblical distinction twixt someone who operates in the “gift of prophecy”, and the office of a “Prophet?” Likewise, I know scripture lists more apostles than the 12 disciples, but I’ve been taught that apostles have seen the risen Lord. Then I’ve heard that “Apostles” are merely those who are “sent out” to establish churches.
You’ve helped clarify so many things, I hope you’ll take a stab at this one.
The Pope’s Recent Announcement
Published: July 13, 2007As always, I really enjoy your site and make it a daily stop. I wanted to get your thoughts on a CNN article (about the Pope’s recent announcement) and why the Pope believes the way he does?
I am looking forward to your thoughts on this.
Did God Ordain The Nations?
Published: July 13, 2007Is there a verse or verses in the Bible that speak to the fact that God has put kings, leaders and even nations in place?
How Many Wives?
Published: July 12, 2007First of all let me say THANK YOU so much for answering my e-mail question’s.
My question this time is did God give some kind of rule’s on number of wives?
When the Hebrews said they wanted a king God warned them of some of the things that could go wrong with a king, and one of them I think was don’t marry bunch of women.
I’m not sure if this is true or not I read so many different articles and stuff that I think I came across this some where but cannot remember where I also looked in the Old Testament but cannot find it. thank you again.
Unbelievers In The Millennium?
Published: July 11, 2007I was speaking with a friend recently about the Millennium. She asked why or how there could be unbelievers during the Millennial reign of Christ and the saints. Could you please explain, and cite any Scripture to support your explanation? Thank you so much.
Should I Tithe On My Gross Or Net?
Published: July 11, 2007I have been tithing on my gross income. But my mother called me this morning and said that I should be calculating at net income. Do I calculate gross or net income?
I ask this question because I am about $20,000 in debt with credit cards. I really really want to pay them back steadily so that by the end of this year, a lot of it can be gone. I just started working so I built most of the debt up in college and grad school. One of my credit cards has a interest of 30%.
So I am generous in general with my money, but being so much in credit card debt, (not including school loans or car loans), I feel like I should be more responsible and pay the least tithe, at least until I’m somewhat out of major debt.
I want to do the right thing, and even if its hard, I will pay everything if I need to. But I’m behind and wish God could just cancel how much I owe Him.
Leaving It All Behind
Published: July 11, 2007One of my daily highlights is to come to this site and learn what Jesus might have to teach me from your insight.
You’ve probably answered this before, but maybe it bears repeating in light of a question asked recently about post-rapture stewardship.
I am a single person, so my financial future, as long or short (I’m longing for the Rapture – now, Lord, please!) as it may be, is in mine (to a minuscule degree) and the Lord’s hands. I have a savings account and a 401K – I don’t want to leave them for people to pillage during the Tribulation, but I also don’t want to be a burden on society if the Lord tarries. My parents were sure that the Lord would come every soon (during the 1970’s) so they didn’t really save for their retirement. Thank God, my father’s retirement from his work career covers him (my mother died years ago). What is the correct balance between these two issues.
How Much Is Enough?
Published: July 11, 2007I know as Christians we are to not put all of our focus on the things of the world because our treasures are in heaven but is there anything wrong with wanting nice things such as new clothes, a new house, family vacations, etc? I tithe more than 10% of my monthly income but feel guilty about going on a vacation or buying new clothes or wanting a bigger house. Thanks for your response.
Peace Not Retaliation
Published: July 9, 2007I recently discovered your site and enjoy it greatly. I believe the Lord is using it to help prepare people for what is to come and understand who He is better.
My question is this: in light of the support that Syria will certainly have from her allies there would surely be a very strong reaction to the total destruction of Damascus by Israel as foretold by Isaiah. What would this reaction (in the context of Biblical prophecy) likely be? It seems to me that there are still some things in the way of geo-political and economic events that still must occur before the war foretold by Ezekiel can come to pass. These things could be accelerated by a war with Syria but it would not seem to be that Ezekiel’s war would be an immediate response.
The Parents Of Boaz, Follow-Up
Published: July 9, 2007Three sources I have looked at place the beginning of the conquest of Canaan as about 1400-1406 B.C. They also place the date of Ruth as being in the latter part of the judges. One says 1000 and two others say 1100B.C. That would give 300 to 400 years between the time Rahab was taken out of Jericho and the life of Ruth and Boaz. What am I missing?
