Living In A Sin Filled City
Published: March 14, 2008I know this will sound like the dumbest question in the world but here goes: my sister and family moved to Pahrump Nevada where prostitution is legal. My sister and her family are born again Christians. My sister’s son is around 21 years old, married with 2 little girls and decided to look for a job at a brothel. Isn’t this wrong? Shouldn’t we have nothing to do with stuff like this and also shouldn’t we avoid the appearance of evil? He boasts and says, oh I would never be tempted even if I worked there.
Explaining Leviticus To An Atheist
Published: March 14, 2008Lately I’ve been conversing with a lot of rather vehement atheists–which tend to come with my line of work–and they’ve frequently confronted me with arguments that I know are weak, but I don’t have a good, biblical response and I don’t know where to look for one really. They are referring to Leviticus and Deuteronomy and all the laws within them about how to live, what to wear, what to eat, who to stone, and on and on. They call Christianity (and Judaism) barbaric for calling for the death sentence for these seemingly mild crimes.
What do I tell them? They would never accept a “God knows better than we do” sort of answer and they want more than a “You’re taking the verses out of context.” I know they’re just basing their argument on anti-religion websites, but there are unfortunately fewer good apologetic sites than there are anti-Christian ones.
In short: How do I explain Levitical law to an atheist?
Emergent Or Emerging?
Published: March 12, 2008Thank you so much for your insight that must be from God. My question this time is regarding the Emergent church movement. We are seeking a new church to worship with, and have been in contact with several prospects. when I asked one church if they supported the Emergent teachings, the pastor said that he was aware of that movement, but believe their’s is an “Emerg-ing” church that is “reaching out” to their community.
I may be “gun-shy” after all we’ve seen so far, but I believe the Lord led us away from that church. The pastor also refused to comment on the Purpose-driven Movement, stating that he wouldn’t criticize another pastor. Were we right not to attend their services?
Should There Be An Israel, Follow Up
Published: March 11, 2008I read your response to the question titled “should there be an Israel” and I was wondering about the last part of the verse you quoted. It says:
“Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,” declares the LORD, “will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me.”
Now I understand that there have always been Jews on the earth but this verse particularly says Israel will never cease to be a nation. However isn’t that exactly what happened after the destruction of the temple? Isn’t that why Israel becoming a nation is looked upon as such a big sign of the end times, since the nation ceased to exist until recently? Perhaps I have misunderstood what the verse is saying and I was hoping you could shed some light on the issue.
Is Baptism Required For Heaven?
Published: March 10, 2008I have a question I hope you can help me with. My wife was Christian all her life and accepted Jesus as her savior a few years ago. It changed her life. She asked her pastor to baptize her but every time something happened. They use a lake because they don’t have a place in the church so bad whether stopped it one time and sickness another time.
Anyhow it never got done she was killed in a car accident 4 months ago. She was only 35 and this has been eating at me ever since. Would God keep her out of heaven because she was never baptized?
I was born and raised Catholic but since the accident, I have read the Bible and done a lot of research. I don’t consider my self a Catholic anymore. Do I need to be baptized?
Is He The Anti Christ?
Published: March 7, 2008I recently heard a CD by (a well known teacher) saying that Prince Hassan Bin Tahal, may very well be the Anti Christ, since he is a direct descendant of Mohammad, has spent his life studying all the religions, is the President of the Club of Rome and would be the one person that all Islamic peoples would trust, therefore being able to bring the different factions together. What is your opinion of this?
Ruling In The Millennium
Published: March 7, 2008Are the Christians of today included in the group that will rule with Jesus in the New Jerusalem during the Millennium? It is unclear to me because Rev. 20:4 mentions “beheaded” Christians during the Tribulation period and I’m not sure if when Jesus was speaking to His disciples about them ruling with Him if that includes the Christians of today.
Thank you in advance for your time and any light you are able to shed on this question.
Christian TV
Published: March 7, 2008I was wondering if you’ve watched certain Christian interview shows where the guests talk about receiving personal visits from Jesus and/or His angels – sometimes on a regular basis since they were kids?
They say that during these visits, He gives them special revelations, prophecy, spiritual gifts, etc. I just watched one and heard this woman claim (even though she was/is saved) that because she and another woman in her congregation had some animosity between them, Jesus told her that Hell was her destination (and literally took her there) unless she forgave this other woman. Also, Jesus told her that many Christians would end-up in Hell because they fail to obey and/or meet His commandment to love one another with an uncompromising love (agape?).
I’m guessing that during your years of ministry, you’ve encountered Christians who’ve confronted you with these types of special revelations from God, which conflict with what you believe the Word of God actually says. How do you deal with someone who claims to be a Christian, and gets personally visited by Jesus? I don’t want to call them a liar, but then again, I don’t want to accept whatever they say as gospel. Would you share your thoughts on these types of situations?
Thank you for this Bible-study website. It’s been a blessing to me.
Sabbatical Cycles And Jubilees
Published: March 7, 2008Given that the Seventieth Week has to or should begin on a Sabbatical Cycle, The date ranges, 2018 and/or 2037, looks like they don’t match up with the Sabbatical Cycles. Also, when there is a Jubilee year, does the next Sabbatical Cycle start that same year or the next year?
OSAS And 2 Peter 2:21-22
Published: March 6, 2008I thought I was secure in my salvation by faith. I was recently told, however, that 2Peter 2:21-22 proved that I could lose that assurance. Is that possible? Now I’m concerned about this. Please advise me on this. Thank you so much.
