Does Grace Have Limits?
Published: May 3, 2008I’ve just read your articles and have learned many new spiritual insight into end-time.
The recent up-roar regarding Tibet (Buddhist or Taoist believers) seems to have attracted all walks of life to stage a protest, including Christian in USA, Europe, etc. I’m not sure what is the definition of “Human Rights” but I do know that the Bible aspires us to do good, protect the weak and provide justice to the defenseless. In the case of Tibet, almost the whole of Western world reacted.
I grew up in a Muslim country and have seen much worse injustice but the Western world, and sad to mention that even the Christians, remain silent.
As a born again Christian, what is the right thing that we should do or react to such situation? Has grace a limitation?
Open Communion Or Closed?
Published: May 2, 2008I have a question … some churches have the Lord’s Supper for all the saved and invite all the saved to join in for the Lord’s Supper. Some churches have closed communion where only saved members of that church are invited to partake of the Lord’s Supper. Which way is the right way?
Will We Know Our Loved Ones?
Published: May 2, 2008My husband was taught by someone as a child that we wouldn’t know our loved ones in heaven. He wondered if we would know our children and if they would know us.
50,070 Smitten, Or Just 70?
Published: May 1, 2008Thank you so much for this wonderful site. I have found answers to so many interesting questions. Now I have one of my own.
My pastor is preaching through the book of 1 Samuel right now. Recently, we covered 1 Samuel chapter 6.
I use a New American Standard, while my pastor preaches from a New King James. Verse 19 notes that God struck down 50,070 men. However, while talking about it later with some of our friends, they said they were confused when our pastor read that part. Their translations said it was just 70, not 50,070. There was no explanation, and at the time they were confused where that extra fifty thousand came from.
Sure enough, the notes in my Bible state that the 50,000 was probably a copyist’s error, as it was not properly conjugated or something like that, and doesn’t appear in all the manuscripts. It further states that there’s no way the city held over fifty thousand people, and that the likely number was actually just seventy.
So what’s going on here? Obviously, I’m extremely confused. Can you shed some light on this for me?
More On Healing Amputees
Published: May 1, 2008Re: Healing Amputees. So basically what you are saying is that when we pray to be healed and we are not then it’s because we didn’t have enough faith?
Ten Questions Christians Should Answer?
Published: April 23, 2008I just read your response to a reader’s question as to why God does not heal amputees and I think I know where the reader got the question from.
Actually, it is one in a series of ten that question the rationality of believing in the God of the Bible. It is titled “10 questions that every intelligent Christian must answer.” I was hoping you could answer the remaining nine.
Is That You Lord? Follow Up
Published: April 21, 2008I have a question regarding your response to “Is that you Lord”
Christianity always speaks of “a personal relationship with Jesus”. To me a relationship means a two way communication or two way intimacy. But when we pray, we wait for “something” to happen and try to interpret. To me this seems equivalent to a witch doctor reading animal intestines for a message … both are hoping for a sign and hoping to be able to read it (and both assume they read it correctly). This “he wants us to see what we’ll do” can also be a cop out for not getting any assistance.
In this personal relationship, it seems a one way street?
I guess my ultimate question is, why a lot of the time there has to be guess work in whether your prayer is being answered when prayer is supposed to be a powerful form of communication with God?
Why Petra?
Published: April 17, 2008I just finished your Daniel audio study. I absolutely loved it!
I am very curious about how you came up with Petra, Jordan as the place fleeing Jews would run to (from Mathew 24:16) in the Great Tribulation. I understand why Jordan is the most likely country to choose (Because Jordan’s King Abdullah is the closest living relative to Mohammed). Is Petra the most likely city because of the old Roman Amphitheater? It there something else I am missing? It seemed like there was a cross-reference you mentioned with the Book of Revelation.
Also, wouldn’t the current Jordanians be less than in favor of Petra being invaded? What would have to happen to welcome the Jews?
One Battle Or Two?
Published: April 17, 2008I agree with you on Ezekiel 38 and 39 regarding it happening before the tribulation. However, the bible study leader at church disagrees with me and pointed me to Revelation 20 vs. 6 and 7. In some translations this shows a Gog and Magog war to occur after the millennium reign of Christ. Are we looking at two separate instances of a war of this type or are we looking at the same war?
Still More On Spare The Rod
Published: April 17, 2008God Bless you for your article about spanking. It’s such a blessing.
My husband was brought up by a “Christian” mother who would whip him with a belt for not wanting to go to church. Is it any wonder that he not only rejects going to church but rejected God Himself for many years? As his wife I have to really be careful in my Christian walk. If I get “too involved” in my church (like his mother did) then I risk turning him away from God again.
I was raised by a non-Christian mother who used threats, hitting, slapping, spanking and such to keep me in line. I am ashamed that I (on a smaller scale) have fallen into that type of behavior myself. I have prayed to the Lord to save my daughter from myself – if anything I do or say interferes with her salvation – take me out. I do not want her to rebel against God by rebelling against me like my husband did with his mother.
Your article has been such a help and I’ve apologized to her and to God. I’ve always prayed that God would help me to be a more godly wife and mother. Your article is a God-send.
